We are pleased to share that MI Engineers has been selected, to assist the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), to provide independent cost engineering services for the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) section of the North-South Corridor. This landmark infrastructure project is set to significantly enhance Adelaide’s transport network.
This major undertaking will see the construction of 10.5 kilometers of motorway, including approximately seven kilometers of twin three-lane tunnels, designed to significantly enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion. The T2D Project is a critical component in completing the non-stop 78km North-South Corridor between Gawler and Old Noarlunga, allowing motorists to avoid 21 existing sets of traffic lights between the River Torrens and Darlington.
MI Engineers has been entrusted with the independent cost estimating services for this ambitious project, leveraging our extensive expertise to ensure accurate, reliable cost estimating throughout the detailed design development and delivery phases. This selection highlights our proven track record in delivering high-quality cost engineering solutions for some of Australia’s most complex infrastructure projects.
Main construction works are slated to begin in 2025, with the tunnel-boring machine (TBM) operations for the Southern Tunnels expected to commence in 2026. The entire Project is projected to be completed by 2031, marking a significant milestone in Adelaide’s infrastructure development.
The T2D Project has already supported around 500 jobs during preparatory works, such as ground investigations and the relocation of utilities. As construction progresses, the Project is anticipated to generate approximately 5,500 positions annually, contributing to substantial economic growth and community development in the region.
