41 The Marina, Culburra Beach

This building is located on The Marina at Culburra beach, which is effectively a beach dune. This project has several feature which required detailed analysis to achieve the desired outcome.

The client requested a 3.5m deep in ground pool which is deeper than the usual residential pools and required detailed analysis to ensure sufficient reinforcement to prevent movement and cracking. Given the ground conditions excavating into the dune sands temporary shoring was required to form the pool which was achieved through sheet piling which remained in place to act of formwork for the concrete pool.

There was also the inclusion of a window looking into the deep section of the pool. Given the water pressure at these depths the detailing of the reinforcement was critical.

The main structure was primarily steel supporting timber, however there were very few direct load paths and as such a detailed model of all the transfers and cantilevers taking particular care of the large windows and accumulative deflections.
