Ballina Bypass (Pimlico Road to Teven Road)
The Ballina Bypass Alliance (BBA) Design Team (comprising AECOM, SMEC and Coffey Geotechnics) was engaged by RMS in September 2011 to undertake the detailed design and tender documentation for a short but complex section of the Pacific Highway between Pimlico Road and Teven Road.
The project involved construction of approximately 3.5kms of two lane single carriageway on the Pacific Highway, a balanced cantilever bridge plus other bridges, extensive sheet piling works and retaining walls, and extensive soft soil treatments.
MIEngineers was engaged to provide program, constructability, cost and risk services for the project. We prepared an optimised program which fully reflected the activity durations based on the estimated quantities and likely resources, while taking into consideration extensive ground treatments and complex traffic staging. This level of detail aided the client in determining the key risks for the project and managing them during construction.
